10 months 200 days Job Summary The VPI Pre-School Teacher creates, maintains and manages an attractive, warm, and challenging learning environment for young children, incorporating developmentally appropriate learning activities which meet the needs of the group as well as those of individual children. Essential Job Functions Implements the program curriculum and the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) performance standards for classrooms. Prepares developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans in advance, which include: multicultural educational materials and activities; both classroom and playground activities; family style dining at meals and snacks as per program policy and procedure; and, individualized activities that are recorded in the lesson plans. Documents volunteer activities and parent input in the lesson plans. Bending, kneeling and sitting on the floor at children's eye level. Teacher organizes the classroom in well-developed and defined learning centers, rotating materials routinely to create a stimulating learning environment for young children. The Teacher maintains a classroom that is clean, safe and free of clutter, with learning materials labeled and organized to make them easily accessible for use by the children. The Teacher ensures that all posted materials are complete as to the required time schedules. Supervises instructional assistant/volunteers Is responsible for all paperwork (lesson plans, student files, referrals, etc.) Follow daily schedule/routine Maintains children's records First Step Screening Child Outcomes Observation Checklist Individual learning plans Initial Family Partnership agreement Medical Forms (Completion and Familiarity with pertinent medical information) Conducts two (2) home visits per class load Conducts two (2) parent conferences with each child's family per year, according to the program calendar Track and report in-kind contributions Performance Standards Maintains documentation for Federal Protocols (Audit) Performs other duties as assigned. Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required) Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning. Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Certification and License:
Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
