Elementary School Teacher Toras Chaim - 5.0 Portsmouth, VA Job Details Part-time 1 hour ago Qualifications Parent-teacher conferences (communication methods) Full Job Description Toras Chaim Academy is seeking a warm, skilled, and mission-aligned Lower Elementary Teacher to nurture academic growth, strong character development, and a love of learning in a small-class setting for the 2026-2027 school year. The Lower Elementary Teacher provides strong instruction in core elementary subjects and is expected to follow the school's curriculum, pacing, and curricular goals with while also differentiating instruction to meet student needs and bringing his/her own personality, creativity, and talents to the table. This role is ideal for a teacher who blends structured instruction with relationship-based classroom leadership, clear routines, and consistent follow-through, while respecting and upholding all school values, policies, and community standards. Implement the school's adopted curriculum, pacing guidance, and instructional expectations consistently and professionally. Plan and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to grade-level standards and the school's curricular goals in ELA (reading, writing, phonics/word study) and math. Use explicit instruction, guided practice, and purposeful independent work to build strong foundational skills (fluency, comprehension, writing stamina, number sense, and problem-solving). Differentiate instruction for varied readiness levels, including small-group instruction and targeted interventions. Teach age-appropriate speaking/listening, science, and social studies content as assigned. Classroom Culture, Conduct, and Student Support Establish a calm, orderly, and positive classroom environment with consistent routines, clear expectations, and developmentally appropriate boundaries. Model and reinforce respectful behavior, responsibility, and kindness, aligned with school values and community standards. Use proactive classroom management and skill-based interventions; partner with families and administration to address recurring concerns. Support students' social-emotional growth through positive reinforcement systems and explicit teaching of expected behaviors. Maintain a classroom culture that reflects the school's mission and expectations regarding student conduct, language, and interactions. Family Partnership & Communication Communicate consistently and respectfully with parents about classroom learning, routines, and student progress. Prepare for and participate in parent-teacher conferences with clear, student-centered updates and practical next steps. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with colleagues and administration to support a unified student experience and shared expectations. Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events. Contribute to school initiatives that strengthen student motivation, positivity, responsibility, and school climate. Maintain punctuality, preparedness, confidentiality, and a high standard of professionalism consistent with a values-driven school community.
