JOB DESCRIPTION ELEMENTARY TEACHER
Third Grade
A. RESPONSIBILITIES
To work with the school principal or his designee, and other staff, in a cooperative effort to plan programs of study that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students assigned to them. To take the planned programs and guide the learning process toward the achievement of school goals, instructional goals and objectives, and all other state and county policies and requirements. This general responsibility can be met by the following: 1. Is punctual and prepared for school/classes/activities/assigned duties. 2. Provide proper care, protection, maintenance, use and storage of school supplies, equipment and property while under his/her supervision. 3. Implement state, school, and county policies, regulations, and procedures. 4. Maintain weekly/daily lesson plans. 5. Organize classes and work so substitute teachers can function with a minimum loss of learning for students. 6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports required by school and county. 7. Attend required activities, workshops, in-service, and continuing education programs as required by county policy to improve professional competency. 8. Utilize the resources of special service personnel, as needed. 9. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance within personnel leave law and policy.
B. RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS 1.
Work under the direct supervision of the school principal or his designee. 2. Work in a cooperative manner with staff, principals, teachers, aides, and parents in a team effort to provide the best possible educational environment for learning to occur.

D. QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Valid West Virginia teaching certificate for grades K-6, 1-6, 1-8, K-12 or as required for grade(s) taught. 2. Teaching certificate must reflect specialization or endorsement in subject area to which assigned. 3. A minimum of a Reading Authorization must be acquired to teach remedial reading (K-12); Reading Specialist Certificate is preferred.
E. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES 1.
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated. 2. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 3. Foster and exhibit high expectations for self and students. 4. Monitor and adhere to responsibilities stated in the Student Attendance Policy of the board of education. 5. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence (lesson plans) of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor 6. Implement all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; for the classroom, develop responsible rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 7. Employ a variety of instructional strategies and instructional technology consistent with physical limitations of the locations provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 8. Implement instructional goals and objectives for the specific area to which assigned. 9. Work with parents as partners in the education of their children and support school parent involvement. 10. Assess and analyze both formally and informally, the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and utilize the information to address students' strengths and weaknesses and provide appropriate reports as required by school and county policy. This includes state/county assessment testing data, particularly instructional goals and objectives. 11. Inform parents on a periodic and continuing basis of the satisfactory or unsatisfactory performance, either academic or behavioral of any assigned student. 12. Participate as needed in the development of the exceptional student's IEP and follow ^^ the IEP as written. 13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 14. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, county policy and administrative regulations. 15. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms or extra-curricular contract. 16. In applicable circumstances, plan and supervise purposeful and meaningful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), and cooperatively with department heads or supervisors, evaluate their job performance. 17. Attend staff meetings, school activities and serve on staff committees as may be required to enhance the school's total education program. 18. Perform all other reasonable duties assigned or contracted by the school principal or deemed necessary by the county superintendent of schools. 19. Dress in a manner which does not distract from the educational process.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
Regular employment term of 200 days. Additional days and supplemental pay must be established per contract by the Lincoln County Board of Education.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel. Salary based on experience and education level per county BOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
