Job Summary:
The English Department at Marist University invites applications for a one year Visiting Lecturer of English with a proven ability to teach First Year Writing and Core Literature courses to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a mix of ENG 120 (Writing or College) and Core Literature classes. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree in English or related field is required. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.
Essential Functions:
The teaching load will be a 4-4 course load. Faculty are expected to hold office hours and attend departmental and school meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in English or Rhet/Comp is desired. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.

Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University. 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity - Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
Tuition Benefits:
Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26. University pays 100% tuition only. Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution. •Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may at the discretion of the University. Department/School:
The English Department includes 18 full-time faculty and offers three Major Concentrations (Literature, Writing, and Theatre) and four Minors (Creative Writing, Professional Writing, Theatre, and Literature). Many English majors are also enrolled in our five-year Master's Degree in Teaching program. The department contributes substantially to our interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, American Studies, Global Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in history, modern languages & cultures, philosophy & religious studies, and political science. The School of Liberal Arts is also home to the Hudson River Valley Institute.
