The Community College of Aurora is looking for an innovative, inclusive, equity-minded, and engaging educator to teach English courses through inclusive and student-centered learning strategies. CCA is committed to quality instruction and maintains high academic standards and a strong commitment to the success of our students. Educators in the English program are continually working to refine pedagogy, practice, and assessment to improve outcomes for all students, particularly those with marginalized or minoritized identities. We are a department that values collaboration and innovation, and we're looking for a colleague who shares these values. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for teaching a variety of English courses, including Composition I and II. The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues across the college, participating in committee assignments and other academic and institutional support activities; CCA is an institution that encourages faculty to be involved in service to the college, including service that contributes to institutional decision-making. The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. Instruction and Student Learning Effectively teach 15 credits of English courses per Fall and Spring semesters; Develop inclusive lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies and outcomes; Participate in innovations in English instruction and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies that foster completion and retention for all students; Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, challenging, equity-minded, and engaging instruction that centers student voice and ways of knowing; Implement current and effective teaching and learning practices, including diversification of instructional delivery, incorporation of diverse sources and voices into the curriculum, and demonstration of cultural relevance and responsiveness in teaching; Evaluate student performance in a constructive, timely, and effective manner; Professional Practice and Discipline Expertise Maintain expertise in the subject area; Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices; Participate in continued discipline- or teaching-specific professional learning; Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities Uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college; Post and maintain office hours; Complete all required instructional professional development activities including a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during their first semester; Stay current with and implement expectations by reading emails regularly and attending departmental, divisional, and college meetings as called by the Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and President; According to established timelines and expectations, create and provide a course syllabus for each assigned class to the department. Provide students with department-approved syllabi by the first day of classes in the LMS; Maintain accurate records according to department/division/college expectations and guidelines, including Instructional Guideline 2.11, in the college LMS - Desire2Learn (D2L). Submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines; Abide by all relevant FERPA, CCCS, and SBCCOE policies and procedures Service Faculty are expected to engage in activities in order to establish a strong sense of community and support the college and the work of colleagues and students. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following. Participate in or lead activities that work to fulfill the mission and goals of the college outside of the classroom. Contribute to the department through service, including curriculum coordination and development and departmental assessment. Conduct student academic advising and outreach as needed. Participate in system, college-wide, and campus committee work. Sponsor and participate in student activities. Contribute to and attend college activities and events. Engage in professional growth opportunities. Provide contributions to the discipline.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An in-hand Master's degree in English or a Master's degree in a closely related field College-level teaching experience Demonstrated willingness to learn about and incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in instruction.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Community College teaching experience Experience working at a Hispanic Serving institution, and/or Minority Serving Institution and/or in programs aimed at encouraging access, retention, and completion of diverse student populations Experience teaching within a co-requisite model Knowledge and practice in inclusive pedagogy/andragogy Dedication to active, learner-centered teaching methodsSUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary Range:
Anticipated salary range: $54,467.20- $74,107.73 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
