Liberal Arts Job Title English (Fall Only), Full-Time Lecturer, Faculty Department English University Expectation MTSU seeks candidates committed to innovative teaching and meaningful service. We also seek to attract culturally and academically diverse faculty who value working with diverse students. Salary The salary is commensurate with education and experience. Job Summary/Basic Function The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for two full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty positions (#123065 and #123560) at the rank of lecturer. These are temporary appointments or for the fall only. The lecturers' contracts may be renewed annually, subject to available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance, as assessed through annual evaluations. The start date for the appointments is August 1, 2026. Successful candidates will teach courses such as first-year writing and general education literature, as needed, to meet a full-time teaching workload. Required Education Applicants are required to have one of the following three degrees by the appointment date: Master of Arts in any of the following disciplines: English, linguistics, rhetoric/composition, or professional/technical writing Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Master of Arts in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework with prefixes in English, linguistics, or technical writing Other Desirables Applicants who possess any or all of the following will receive special consideration. PhD or DA in English, linguistics, rhetoric/composition, or professional/technical writing Two or more years of full-time experience teaching college-level writing classes experience teaching general education English classes in a blended format experience teaching general education classes in a fully online format experience teaching developmental English courses Documents Needed to Apply To successfully apply, applicants must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy.
