Immediately Job Description To develop in each pupil skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to good communication; to develop an appreciation of good literature of all types; to motivate pupils to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in the field of English.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with a valid Arkansas teaching license and applicable level/area endorsement At least 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred Highly Qualified Status as determined by the Arkansas Department of Education Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults, both orally and in writing Ability to establish effective rapport with pupils and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, and other staff members
Responsibilities:
Teaches content and skills in the English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Department of Education Incorporates references to standards throughout the teaching and learning activities in his/her classes Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment Responsible for the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of instruction in English as required by the department Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students Maintains professional competence through participation in professional growth activities Participates in faculty meetings and committee work, as requested Uses professionally accepted teaching strategies, techniques, and materials to achieve identified lesson objectives Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an atmosphere in the classroom conducive to learning and an orderly environment during group rehearsals and performance Excellent organizational and personnel skills Participates in the subject curriculum and other developmental programs Other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee
