The ideal candidate will bring innovative instructional strategies, a commitment to student success, and a deep understanding of curriculum development and educational best practices. Duties Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, integrating creative writing, journalism, and literacy education techniques. Develop engaging instructional materials that incorporate learning technology and research-based methods to enhance student understanding. Foster a positive classroom environment through effective classroom management and behavior management strategies, ensuring all students feel supported and motivated. Assess student progress regularly using standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; provide timely feedback to guide improvement. Mentor students individually or in small groups, offering tutoring and academic advising to support diverse learning needs, including special education considerations. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design, instructional design, and school-wide initiatives to promote continuous improvement. Incorporate Chicago Manual of Style guidelines, AP style, proofreading, copy editing, and linguistics principles into writing assignments and classroom activities. Utilize library services and research tools to enhance literacy skills and foster independent learning habits among students. Engage in professional development opportunities related to higher education teaching practices, Montessori methods, or education administration as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred. Proven classroom experience teaching 8th grade ELA or similar grade levels with demonstrated success in literacy education. Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, standardized testing preparation, and assessment strategies. Experience working with diverse learners including students with special needs or those requiring additional academic support. Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and organizational skills to manage lesson planning and classroom activities effectively. Knowledge of learning technology tools to enhance instruction and student engagement. Ability to mentor students through academic advising or tutoring sessions while fostering a growth mindset. Prior private school experience or familiarity with Montessori or other specialized educational approaches is a plus.
