Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)•
LTEL & Mid-Year Newcomer Support Position Overview:
The
LTEL TOSA
is a primarily student-facing role dedicated to providing targeted, direct instruction for long-term English learners (LTELs) and mid-year newcomers (arriving October onwards). This teacher builds strong, supportive relationships with students to accelerate their language acquisition and acclimate newcomers to the GUHSD school environment. By working closely with students in small groups and within their Integrated ELD (iELD) content courses, the TOSA identifies the specific scaffolds each student needs. The ultimate goal of this role is to build student independence and facilitate a gradual hand-off of successful differentiation strategies to the core content area teachers.
