High School English Language Arts Teacher

Banning Lewis Prep Academy, serving grades 6-12, is one of two campuses (Banning Lewis Ranch Academy—K-5 is the other) is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Position Overview The High School English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills. This position creates an engaging and structured classroom environment that promotes student voice, analysis, and ownership of learning while aligning with PBIS, CKH, and restorative practices. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Lesson Design Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to ELA standards. Emphasize critical reading, analytical writing, discussion, and real-world communication skills. Incorporate a variety of texts, including fiction, nonfiction, and informational materials. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners. Assessment & Feedback Design and administer formative and summative assessments. Provide timely, actionable feedback to students. Use assessment data to guide instructional decisions. Classroom Culture & Management Establish clear expectations and routines. Maintain a focused and respectful learning environment. Reinforce PBIS expectations consistently. CKH & Relationship Building Build strong relationships that foster trust and engagement. Encourage student voice, confidence, and ownership in literacy development.

Restorative Practices:

Address behavior through reflective and restorative approaches. Collaboration Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan instruction and analyze data. Collaborate with colleagues to improve student outcomes.

Operational Support:

Support school events, supervision duties, and testing as needed. Commitment to School Climate and Culture The ELA Teacher promotes a culture where all students can succeed in literacy through high expectations, meaningful engagement, and strong relationships. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, or a related field in education. Ability to obtain a valid Colorado teaching license. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching high school ELA. Knowledge of secondary ELA courses (Literature, Composition, American Literature, British Literature, AP/Advanced coursework, etc.). Post-graduate degree or credits toward obtaining approval as a college instructor (concurrent enrollment). Salary Range:

$51,000 - $65,000 This position will be for the 2026-2027 school year.
