Position Summary The Adult Education Instructor provides engaging, high-quality instruction that helps adult learners develop English language proficiency, academic skills, digital literacy, workforce readiness, and confidence. As a full-time member of our Adult Education team, you'll create an inclusive classroom where students feel supported and empowered while delivering standards-based instruction that promotes student achievement and lifelong learning. This position also plays an important role in student assessment, curriculum development, program initiatives, and continuous improvement throughout the year. What You'll Do Instruction & Classroom Leadership Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with Adult Education curriculum and program requirements. Develop lesson plans that incorporate evidence-based instructional practices and adult learning principles. Differentiate instruction to meet the educational, cultural, language, and learning needs of adult learners. Integrate instructional technology and digital learning tools into classroom instruction. Monitor student progress through classroom assessments, CASAS testing, and ongoing evaluation. Create a positive, respectful, and student-centered classroom environment that promotes engagement and persistence. Student Support Build supportive relationships that encourage student confidence and success. Provide timely feedback that helps students achieve their educational goals. Encourage participation in workshops, educational opportunities, and program activities. Collaborate with staff to connect students with resources that address barriers to success. Program & Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate attendance, student records, and classroom documentation. Prepare semester student progress reports. Utilize Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support student learning when applicable. Participate in student registration, assessment, testing, and placement activities. Support curriculum development, classroom preparation, and departmental initiatives. Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required state training. Qualifications We're looking for an educator who is passionate about adult learning, committed to student success, and enjoys working collaboratively.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree required. Hold or be eligible for Connecticut Adult Education certification with 088 and/or 111 cross endorsement. Connecticut Teaching Certificate preferred. Experience teaching adult learners, English language learners (ESL/ESOL), Adult Basic Education, or related populations preferred. Knowledge of adult learning principles and differentiated instructional practices. Ability to develop engaging lesson plans and deliver effective instruction. Experience assessing student learning and adapting instruction to support achievement. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Classroom, classroom technology, and educational software. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
