Aug 11, 2026 Job Description Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for a English Language Learner Teacher & Consultant. 192-day contract (plus 2 orientation days initial year) beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Salary:
2026-2027 Salary Schedule (based on education and experience). Region 1: Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Moravia, Seymour, Wayne. Region 2: Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont, Keota, North Mahaska, Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa Christian, Pekin, Sigourney, Tri-County. Region 3: Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic. Region 4: Fairfield, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union. Region 5: Burlington, Burlington Notre-Dame, Danville, New London, and West Burlington. Region 6: Central Lee, Fort Madison, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keokuk, Keokuk Catholic, and Van Buren County.
Position Summary:
The English Language Learner Teacher & Consultant shall provide related and consultative services to students, teachers, administrators, and AEA staff on related issues. This will include advising general education and special education personnel on scientifically based instructional strategies, curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as innovative practices. The ELL teacher and consultant will also be responsible for designing, developing, and providing quality professional development programs for individuals and groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
The English Language Learner Teacher & Consultant must have a Master's Degree in Education plus four years of teaching experience. Additional coursework and professional development in related areas are preferred. Eligible for Iowa license with teaching and/or appropriate administrative or support service endorsement(s) Positive interpersonal and collaboration skills, teamwork, and excellent written and verbal skills Demonstrated leadership in the areas of student achievement and systems work
Responsibilities:
Provides related and consultative services to local districts and AEA staff on designing, planning, implementing and evaluating ELL. Provides related service and guidance to local districts and AEA staff related to Title III requirements. Assists in the review and assessment of local district curricular needs and expectations around English Language Learners curriculum issues and English Language Development Standards. Provides related instruction and support in designing curricular strategies that infuse Iowa Core Curriculum essential concepts and skills, content standards, benchmarks, assessments, media and technology into teachers' planning and practice to improve student learning for ELLs. Supports and collaborates with district and agency personnel to implement components of the Iowa Academic Standards. Facilitates collection, summarization, and reporting of language proficiency data of English Language Learners in Great Prairie AEA. Assists supervisor with planning and monitoring of Title III funds and other grants to support ELLs. Communicates with local school districts regarding Agency services. Collaborates with educational partners; i.e. colleges and universities, Iowa Department of Education, Area Education Agencies, and administrative and teacher professional organizations. Plans, develops, and/or implements professional development programs, workshops, and training sessions for area educators and support staff. Consults and supports AEA and LEA staff regarding the needs of ELLs, including selection of materials for AEA collections, curriculum and instruction for students with a variety of levels of language acquisition, and support for families and cultural understanding. Collaborates with Agency personnel to build internal AEA capacity to support schools/districts with English learners. Demonstrates knowledge of current research and best practices in the area of ELL education and has the ability to translate this research into practice. Demonstrates cultural competence and behaviors consistent with the core values, vision and mission of Great Prairie AEA in personal interactions and all job-related activities. Complies with state and federal rules and regulations and AEA policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel between schools/sites served and outside of the service area. Normal, routine levels of bending, carrying, climbing, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. At times, the job may also involve above average levels of activity which can't always be anticipated.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office and school setting. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise, odors, and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Work involves irregular hours and days. Exposed to hazards and inclement weather when traveling.
