•4.4 Chicago, IL Job Details $38,773•$68,980 a year 7 days ago Qualifications School experience Bachelor's degree Teaching Full Job Description Latin School of Chicago is hiring an Upper School English Teacher for maternity leave coverage for the 2026-2027 school year from early September to early March. Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces diversity of people, cultures and ideas. Latin School of Chicago seeks a creative and innovative Upper School English Teacher who is passionate about teaching literature through critical reading, writing, and thinking instruction; and is looking to join an enthusiastic and collaborative group of educators.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach 4 classes per semester: 2 sections of English 10: East Asian Literature and 2 sections of English 11: American Seeker Attend department meetings and division meetings Work closely with department members, department chair, and division director to design lesson plans and curriculum that is aligned and responsive to student needs; specifically, work collaboratively with the English 10 team on parallel assessments and with the English 11 team on the Earned Honors process and assessment evaluation Write narratives on student progress two times per year Cultivate an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students Be available to students outside of class time for writing conferences and feedback, as needed
COMPENSATION
Salary is $38,773•$68,980 total salary for the leave, based on education level and years of experience as outlined in our Faculty Scale. Eligible for benefits. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States (We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.) Master's degree preferred, Bachelor's degree required 3+ years teaching experience at the high school level Background, training, and experience teaching from an identity-based perspective Experience teaching East Asian literature and/or literature in translation preferred but not required Experience cultivating an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds, and who fosters appreciation for differences in our community Commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism Critical thinking and reflection skills to assess and improve existing processes Strong communication skills, including spoken and written communication Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development Comfort integrating technology into the classroom and in lessons Ability to curate materials in a Course Management System Interested candidates should include the following as part of their application: A 1 page letter of interest that articulates how past experiences align with Latin's hiring needs 1-2 page resume of relevant work experiences and accomplishments Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the position will remain open until filled.
