Principal, Director of Bilingual Services Basic Function:
Individuals must be able to teach high school Language Arts courses to EL students such as EL English 9, El English 10, EL English 11, EL English 12, ENL English, and EL Language Arts Lab/Read 180.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Candidates will display professionalism and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be highly skilled in classroom management and student engagement skills. Must be able to instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, and use relevant technology to support instruction. Must be able to skillfully use differentiated instructional strategies to meet individual learning styles and demonstrate experience implementing innovative instructional programs/practices for English Learners. Skillfully use cooperative learning strategies to engage all EL students in learning; establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Use data to guide instruction and be able to work collaboratively in a professional learning community. Prepare lesson plans based on the Indiana State Standards, WIDA ELD Standards, record grades using the corporation electronic grade book (PowerSchool), maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and attendance accurately and completely, as required by law, corporation policies and school regulations, and assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the Language Arts curriculum. Participate in the 8-step process of instruction and remediation/enrichment. Candidate must have knowledge of and experience using software or online tools to remediate, enrich, and increase students' skill sets. Must be able to effectively communicate with students and parents and be willing to contact parents to keep them fully informed of their student's progress. Must have knowledge of and demonstrated ability to create a positive and professional. relationship with students and the ability to create a welcoming, focused and productive learning environment where students feel comfortable seeking assistance. Must be willing to assist as a test administrator for the annual English language proficiency assessment - WIDA ACCESS. Must be willing to implement various school and corporation initiatives, including but not limited to, Culturally Responsive - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, Character Education and participate in Professional Communities. Must work in collaboration with the Bilingual Education Specialist.
Qualifications:
Must hold a current Indiana License/Certification in Language Arts in grades 9-12 and be highly qualified Master's degree or higher preferred
EL/ESL/ENL
license required Previous experience in an urban high school setting preferred Experience teaching varying levels of English Language Arts courses required Candidate must not have had a recommendation for Probation Assistance on most recent evaluation Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with students, faculty, and administration
Special Considerations:
Candidate must have previous experience with English Learners Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for EL students Knowledge of second-language acquisition theory and practice Thorough and complete knowledge of
WIDA ELD
Standards/Model Performance Indicators and content of grade level areas Willingness to attend ongoing training
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
