Job Description
Organization Details
Organization Information The Harlan Independent School District, a recognized leader in the Southeastern Region and in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, consistently achieves high test scores and ranks as one of Kentucky's highest performing kindergarten through twelfth grade public school districts. Founded in 1911, we are located in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky. Steeped in a century of tradition and mountain heritage, the district operates the highest performing preschool through grade 12 academic program in the region. Our rich tradition of academic excellence combined with a low student/teacher ratio enables us to provide a private school atmosphere in a public school setting. Our district provides the following opportunities: advanced placement and college dual credit courses (free), gifted education, world language, vocational programs, athletic programs, band, academic teams, student technology leadership, and after-school and summer opportunities for students. With a strong academic focus, our district consistently performs at the highest levels on both state and national assessment measures. Graduates demonstrate extremely high successful transition rates to post secondary institutions. Harlan Elementary School includes the primary program and fourth grade(k-4). Harlan High School is composed of a middle school unit for grades five through eight (5-8) and a high school unit for students in grades nine through twelve (9-12). Preschool (k3/k4) for three and four year old students is offered at Sunshine Preschool. It is the mission of Harlan Independent Schools to join in partnership with our families and the community to ensure that our students are prepared to compete successfully in the workplace and in life. Along with its academic and extracurricular programs, the district offers a variety of student, parent, and community support services in an effort to accomplish this goal.
