DLS is currently accepting applications for ALL languages for part-time, ONLINE classes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Language Training Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Academic Director, the Language Training Instructor teaches foreign language to personnel who may or may not be affiliated with the United States Government; prepares and submits lesson plans for each student; prepares progress and test reports; and conducts ongoing assessment to provide students with feedback about their progress.
Instructional Expectations:
Attends a new or re-hire orientation and at least 1 professional development training session per year to ensure DLS policies and procedures are practiced. Uses student-centered methods and the communicative approach while instructing all students. Incorporates technology tools (LMS, e-materials, etc.) when appropriate to enhance the learning environment. Enters time and student attendance accurately; reports schedule changes, absences, and planned days off according to DLS policy. Regularly communicates with the Language Training Supervisor to discuss each student's progress to ensure goals are met and that academic interventions are made (as needed) in a timely manner. Serves as a mock tester and contributes to other academic activities such as language immersions, curriculum development, and cultural events. The expectations listed above may be updated at the discretion of the Language Training Supervisor or Academic Director when academic needs change.
Required Qualifications:
(1) a bachelor's degree with a minimum of three months of full-time equivalent ESOL or foreign language classroom teaching experience or (2) a bachelor's degree along with a certificate in teaching ESOL or a foreign language that includes a practice teaching component. For instructors of languages less commonly taught, the minimum qualifications may also be a bachelor's degree and completion of a DLS comprehensive foreign language instructor-training program that includes a practicum component with instructor classroom observations and evaluations. Instructional staff also must have ILR proficiency of at least level 3 in the language that they are teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching with the AFCLC's LEAP program Uses second language acquisition methodologies for adult learners Can develop ILR-level appropriate training materials Able to tailor classes to individual student needs and learning preferences Able to incorporate and use online educational technology Speaks at ILR level 3 proficiency in English Has master's degree in TESOL, App Ling, or other Language related field Classes are part-time and 1-3+ months long in duration; schedules vary.
