This involves services for students in grades 9 through 12. The ML teacher will work in content areas (English, Mathematics, Science, and/or Social Studies) and in career areas when needed. Specific assignments may change to match the needs of the students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively teach English collectively to students with different primary languages, utilizing natural patterns of first language learning in teaching English as a second language. Provide consultation services and recommendations to staff that has EL students in their classroom. Administer the ACCESS tests to all qualifying students according to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidelines. Implement appropriate record-keeping for all students in the program. Document and convey student progress to staff and parents. Work with staff and parents to arrange for translation and interpretation services if necessary. Participate in community activities, which promote a feeling of welcome and support for families of Multilingual Learners Provide information to GLTS staff regarding: Regulations involving Multilingual Language Learners in the classroom. The meaning of Sheltered Immersion and how that applies to and impacts classroom instruction. The components of the ACCESS assessment instruments and information about the Department of Education's EL benchmark documents. Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the classroom, students, teaching assistants, and parent volunteers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree preferred; Bachelor's Degree in the area of major study is required with a minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably in a vocational high school setting; or any combination of education and work experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certificate from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in English as a Second Language.
ABILITY, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.
