About the Park School The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The Upper Division English teacher is a member of the school's Upper Division and reports to the Upper Division Head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to teach English in support of the school's mission and curricular goals. Primarily an English role (four sections), though we're open to a combined English/Social Studies schedule for candidates with interest and background in both areas . Responsibilities Teach four sections of English Design, plan, and implement student-centered lessons which demonstrate a deep understanding of the academic discipline, curriculum, instruction, child development, and best practices, aligned with the goals and mission of The Park School Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct, and procedures and routines, consistent with School policies Assess student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary Oversee and serve as the primary contact between home and school as an advisor of a small group of students Collaborate with all Park School employees as appropriate Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development. Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, event/activity coverage, etc.) Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School Participate in school community activities Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults. Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents. High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community. Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and innovative practices that support student growth. Ability to think independently and collaborate in a team environment. Skill in differentiating instruction. Maintain focus and adaptability in an energetic and, at times, loud environment. Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflicts with students and families in a timely manner. The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet). Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the School, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.

Physical Requirements:

The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time. The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g., level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.). The ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of an emergency. The ability to consistently operate a computer. Proficient in the ability to quickly learn Google tools and other school software. The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students. The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions. The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead. The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs. The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment. The compensation range for this role is based on a faculty scale of 65,420 to 139,580 annually. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees received, years of lead teaching experience, and other considerations permitted by law.
