POSITION SUMMARY
Bishop Stang High School is seeking a motivated, qualified English Teacher for a short-term leave coverage assignment. The successful candidate will teach a multi-level course load spanning four sections — from Advanced College Preparatory writing to Advanced Placement English Literature — serving senior students across the full range of academic tracks. This is an excellent opportunity for an educator passionate about literature, writing, and college preparation in a faith-centered academic environment.
COURSE LOAD
The assigned teacher will be responsible for the following four sections: ▸ Advanced College Prep Writing | ACP Writing-1 Process-oriented writing course covering prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing through formal and creative writing modes. Designed for students demonstrating success in the College Preparatory English program who seek to develop lasting skills as independent writers. ▸ AP English Literature | AP EngLit-1 College Board AP course fulfilling the English IV requirement. Students study British and American literature across periods and genres, with writing focused on critical literary analysis. Students prepare for the AP English Literature Examination administered in May. ▸ College Preparatory English IV | CP Engl 4-1 Senior English course surveying selected world literature including poetry, fiction, and drama. Reinforces college-level vocabulary, critical reading, and writing skills in preparation for post-secondary education. ▸ Honors English IV | HonEngl 4-2 Accelerated senior course integrating vocabulary, grammar, research, and writing with intensive study of diverse literature by world authors. Emphasis on literary interpretation, critical analysis, and polished academic writing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver daily instruction aligned with existing curricula, lesson plans, and pacing guides for all four sections. Guide students through literary analysis and the full writing process, with differentiated support across course levels. Administer and grade assignments and assessments in a timely and constructive manner consistent with department standards. Prepare AP English Literature students for the College Board exam through critical analysis and timed writing practice. Maintain accurate grade records and communicate student progress to guidance and administration as needed. Collaborate with the English/Fine Arts Department Chairperson to ensure continuity of instruction throughout the leave period. Manage the classroom environment consistent with Bishop Stang's standards for conduct, faith formation, and academic integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Teaching license not required; strong content knowledge and classroom experience welcomed. Experience teaching across multiple levels, including college preparatory, honors, and/or AP coursework preferred. Strong background in literary analysis, writing instruction, and the writing process across genres. Ability to quickly build positive, professional relationships with students and collaborate with department colleagues.
