Summer Language Academy Location:
Mullen Hall School (hosts for all grades 1-6) Summer 2026
JOB GOAL:
The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher provides instruction to develop social and academic English language skills that support a student's ability to effectively perform academically in English and acquire the English language. The ELD Teacher works to establish and maintain culturally and linguistically responsive communication with students and families. The ELD teacher will be responsible for monitoring students' linguistic progress and behavior during the program. Additionally, the teacher will strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
QUALIFICATIONS
MA DESE Licensure:
Teacher, English as a Second Language, PreK-6 and/or 5-12 preferred Successful experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities, interests, and needs, supporting bilingual/bicultural students required Bachelor's Degree required Advanced educational preparation in the area of ESL preferred Knowledge and understanding of ELD instruction and second language acquisition required Such other alternatives as the Superintendent may deem acceptable and appropriate
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of enrolled students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals aligned to the objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; communicate these objectives to students. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports. Assist with providing language assessment of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required. Provide individualized and small group English Language Development (ELD) instruction to English Learners (EL). Plan, develop, and implement ELD instruction and Massachusetts English language proficiency standards. Provide effective ELD classroom techniques and instruction to enhance second language acquisition and to gain academic language. Demonstrate effective techniques of classroom management, behavioral interventions, and communication to engage students. Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices. Collaborate and communicate with SEI teacher(s) to align instruction; cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Support EL students' English language acquisition and classroom instructional needs (i.e., instructions, academic vocabulary, reading, writing support, and clarification of assignments). Understand and comply with the state policies, rules, and regulations regarding English Learners. Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, ELD Department Head, and/or Director of Teaching & Learning.
WORK SCHEDULE
:
Early August:
4 hours of prep time before program to ensure fulfillment of outlined responsibilities. Grade 1-6: August 10-21, Monday-Friday, 8:45-11:45 plus one hour of prep each day Grades 7-8; August 10-21, online 3 hours/week plus 1 hour prep each week.
SALARY:
$45 per hour
