The Middle School ELA Teacher•Grade 6 will foster a love of science through engaging, inquiry-based instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework. This teacher will serve as a core member of the middle school academic team, working collaboratively to promote academic excellence and student growth. This position provides a unique opportunity to cultivate scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving in a diverse and inclusive learning environment. The teacher will collaborate closely with students, families, and colleagues to support academic growth and promote a lifelong love of learning. Curriculum and Lesson Design Design and implement a comprehensive, standards-aligned ELA curriculum based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Develop engaging, differentiated lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of all learners, including English Learners (ELs) and students with diverse learning profiles. Literacy Instruction Teach and model effective reading, writing, and language strategies, emphasizing comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and critical text analysis. Integrate reading and writing across genres to support analytical and creative expression. Assessment and Progress Monitoring Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and inform instruction. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and collaborate with administrators to reflect on and refine instructional practices. Classroom Environment Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom climate that promotes respect, collaboration, and academic engagement. Implement effective classroom management strategies to support a safe and productive learning environment. Professional Engagement Collaborate actively with ELA department colleagues and across disciplines to enhance curriculum alignment and instructional practices. Engage in continuous professional learning and participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, and events. Parent and Community Communication Maintain open, proactive communication with parents/guardians to support student learning and growth. Provide regular updates on academic progress, classroom activities, and strategies for continued improvement. Technology Integration Incorporate educational technology and digital tools to enhance instruction, promote digital literacy, and support student engagement.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
Education & Certification Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field required ; Master's degree preferred . Must hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in English (5-8) or Elementary (1-6) . Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required (or must be obtained within the first year of employment). Experience Prior classroom teaching experience required; experience in Grades 5-8 preferred. Demonstrated success teaching English Language Arts. Familiarity with theWONDERS ELA
curriculum and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks highly desirable. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of ELA content, pedagogy, and assessment practices. Proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including ELs and students with special education plans. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching. Authorization Must be authorized to work in the United States.WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a school and office setting. Some travel between schools may be required. Occasional evening and weekend events for Board of Trustee meetings, parent meetings, college nights, academic and/or athletic events, or professional development may be necessary.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive motions. Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching. Standing or walking for the entirety of an 8-hour shift. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.Important Note:
