Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at JPS Jackson High School as an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher. This full-time position is designed for an individual who is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. The ELL Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that all students achieve academic success while developing their English language skills. Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of ELL students. Assess students' English language proficiency and academic progress through various evaluation methods. Provide individualized and small group instruction to support language acquisition and content understanding. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate ELL strategies into the general curriculum. Create and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting language development at home. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ELL education. Advocate for the needs of ELL students within the school community and contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion. Maintain accurate records of student progress and documentation as required by school and district policies. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) or equivalent. Experience working with ELL students in a K-12 educational setting is highly desirable. Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff. Proficiency in a second language is a plus. Commitment to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom environment. Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
