QUALIFICATIONS
Michigan Certification in secondary English (BX, or BA) Ability / experience teaching a range of learners from advanced to intervention (preferred) Certified and able to teach multiple English courses and/or another content area (preferred) Experience teaching English at the secondary level (preferred) Experience or expertise in effective English instruction Experience working in a High School environment (preferred) Excellent communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Understanding of Michigan's State Standards Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a focus on student learning Ability to appropriately integrate technology within instruction and support students with online instruction Ability to effectively plan and deliver quality instruction Ability to use Atlas and Schoology (learning management system) consistent with the District curriculum and instructional expectations Effective practices for working with students of all ability levels, able to differentiate instruction Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (preferred) Effective use of balanced assessment (formative and summative) Understanding of classroom strategies, data and systems of MTSS Experience designing and implementing targeted and individualized interventions for students who require remediation or additional learning supports Demonstrated commitment to supporting the needs of all students Interest / ability to lead or contribute to extra-curricular activities (preferred)
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs students of all ability levels in assigned English courses using the District curriculum Conducts work in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to high levels of professional practice and conduct Effectively plans and prepares instructional lessons and supports that include best practices in engaging and addressing the learning needs of all students Effectively plans and delivers quality instruction Demonstrates ability to use Atlas and Schoology (learning management system) consistent with the District curriculum and instructional expectations Works to further develop the curriculum and seek innovative, engaging and motivating instructional approaches Functions as a collaborative and contributing team member within the NHS English Department Frequently communicates with students, parents, counselors and administrators regarding student progress and other related matters Monitors, assesses and reports student progress toward learning targets and curriculum Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning Implements useful progress monitoring assessment measures Effectively uses multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan•guide instruction and inform the learner Establishes a cooperative relationship with all students Fosters a sense of appreciation and enthusiasm for the content area Plans and facilitates quality distance learning for students, as needed Engages in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development Complies with all policies and procedures of the District Contributes and participates in efforts related to school and district goals Takes direction from the building and District administration Maintains regular and consistent predictable attendance Performs other relevant duties as assigned by administration
