Full Job Description ELA Teacher Summary:
Under the Executive Director's supervision, the English Language Arts 6th-8th Grade Teacher will provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use various diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning.Duties/Responsibilities:
Develops and administers school middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Coordinates with other middle school professional staff members, especially within a grade level and specific subjects, and to evaluate and assess curriculum. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Collaborates with other staff members and participates in faculty meetings, Aurora professional development opportunities, and committees. Participates in various student and parent activities in school, including curriculum nights, parent/teacher conferences, and school events. Performs other duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:
Bilingual English and Spanish preferred not required. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work.Education and Experience:
Current MN teaching license in English for grades 5-12, 7-12 or Communication Arts & Literature for grades 5-12, 7-12 or possess ability to obtain an alternative teaching license (Tier 1 or Tier 2). Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment, possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License or state identification, satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, and comply with organizational and district policies.Physical Requirements:
Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds. Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis. Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and readingFLSA:
