Exeter High School is a public high school in Exeter, New Hampshire, serving students in grades 9–12+. Position Overview:
As a high school English teacher, you will be responsible for creating a rigorous, student-centered classroom environment that challenges and supports a diverse population of learners. You will design and implement high-quality literacy instruction aligned with state standards, ensuring that all students develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Excellence:
Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-based ELA lessons that integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Proactively design lessons that remove barriers to learning, providing multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression to meet the needs of all learners.
Restorative Practices:
Cultivate a vibrant classroom culture by implementing Restorative Practices to build community, manage conflict, and strengthen student-teacher relationships.
Data-Driven Instruction:
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and differentiate instruction accordingly.
Collaboration:
Work closely with grade-level teams, literacy coaches, and special education staff to support the holistic development of students.
Family Engagement:
Maintain proactive and positive communication with families regarding student achievement and personal growth.
Core Competencies:
Vibrant Pedagogy:
A proven ability to make literature and writing relevant to middle schoolers' lives.
Inclusion Mindset:
Deep understanding of UDL principles and the ability to apply them in a general education setting.
Conflict Transformation:
Experience using Restorative Justice circles and conferences to maintain a safe, accountable, and inclusive classroom.
Tech Savvy:
Proficiency in integrating educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom, digital literacy tools) to enhance learning.
Communication:
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire a diverse student body.
Qualifications Profile:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Secondary Education, or a related field (Master's Degree preferred).
Certification:
Valid State Teaching Certification in Secondary English Language Arts.
Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience at the high school level is preferred. Demonstrated experience working in a high-performing or "vibrant" school environment. Documented professional development or practical experience in Restorative Justice and UDL frameworks.
