YCS utilizes the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP), Early Warning System (EWS), PBIS, and IMTSS frameworks to support the whole child and ensure all students receive high-quality instruction and intervention support. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Grade 5 ELA Teacher who believes all students can achieve at high levels through engaging, standards-based instruction and strong classroom relationships. Position Summary The Grade 5 ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality English Language Arts instruction aligned to Ohio Learning Standards. The teacher will create a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes literacy growth, critical thinking, student collaboration, and academic success. The ideal candidate will use data-driven instructional practices, participate in collaborative team structures, and support schoolwide literacy initiatives focused on improving student achievement. Essential Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging Grade 5 ELA instruction aligned to Ohio Learning Standards. Implement district-adopted curriculum and instructional resources with fidelity. Utilize explicit instruction, small-group learning, and differentiated strategies to meet diverse student needs. Integrate reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills into daily instruction. Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and interventions. Maintain rigorous academic expectations while building positive student relationships. Data & School Improvement Participate in Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs) and collaborative data discussions. Support schoolwide academic goals aligned to the Early Warning System (Attendance, Behavior, and Course Performance). Utilize student data to provide targeted intervention and enrichment opportunities. Support implementation of MTSS/IMTSS and intervention structures. Classroom Environment & Culture Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment. Implement PBIS expectations and restorative practices to support student behavior and engagement. Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding academic progress and classroom expectations. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development, school improvement initiatives, and staff meetings. Collaborate with intervention specialists, instructional coaches, and administrators. Maintain accurate records, grades, and lesson plans. Fulfill all responsibilities required by Ohio law and school policy. Qualifications Valid Ohio Teaching License (4-9 ELA or appropriate licensure). Bachelor's Degree required. Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and Ohio Learning Standards. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction to improve outcomes. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in urban education settings. Familiarity with MTSS, PBIS, and data-driven instruction. Experience using literacy intervention strategies and small-group instruction. Passion for improving student literacy outcomes and closing achievement gaps.
