In partnership with educators, government agencies, and community leaders across the nation, Graduation Alliance provides versatile pathways to high school graduation for youth and adults, fosters college and career exploration, and connects job creators to skilled and ready workers. Since 2007, Graduation Alliance has worked with more than 650 state agencies, school districts, community colleges, and workforce boards around the country to recruit, re-enroll, educate, and mentor students. Graduation Alliance also operates The American Academy, an exemplary online high school that is fully accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, a division of Cognia. Our full-service diploma completion programs can be delivered in facility-based, blended, or fully online settings. These programs are supported with recruiting, transcript analysis, technology, coaching and mentoring, and robust support services. We also develop and facilitate skill certification packages with tailored support to students of all ages. In coordination with local and national employers, we offer work experience, internship programs and job placement. And we partner with institutions to provide pathways to post-secondary education and career training, complete with preferential enrollment, dual credit opportunities, and early financial aid reviews. Position Summary:
AchievePoint Career Academy's English teacher has responsibilities different from those of a teacher at a traditional high school. Through blended learning instruction, the teacher is expected to work towards filling the gaps of literacy that students might have missed from previous schooling. The teacher must gauge each individual student's standing between all levels of high school English, and design and deliver lessons that aim for student success between their online credit-bearing courses and state testing. They must do so for students through facility based learning, and virtual learning. During on campus time, we focus on literacy, numeracy, soft skill development through our "Extended Learning Opportunity" period, career pathways, and online course work. All teachers in the facility are responsible for monitoring student pace and progress toward graduation as well as specific instructional responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
The English teacher is responsible for:
  • Providing instructional support for all students in the academy
  • Creating interactive and engaging lessons
  • Providing direct instruction needed to increase English skills in all students
  • Working with student's social-emotional needs
  • Monitoring instructional groups to meet student's English needs
  • Monitoring student's weekly progress and compliance reporting
  • Monitoring and approve student's online work
  • Creating lessons plans for "Extended Learning Opportunity"
  • Ensuring students are ready for graduation tests, with a focus on English II
  • Assisting in planning and organizing all state tests
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Ideal English teacher will have experience working with at-risk youth and students of differing needs in a school based learning environment, in addition to:
  • Ohio Teacher Certification; English Language Arts endorsement or documented experience working with english instruction
  • Minimum BS or BA from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to work with struggling, at-risk students
  • Demonstrated professionalism that displays effective judgment and professional integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership and guiding role that enhances student achievement toward educational goals
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Working knowledge of web-based applications for online learning, including learning environments and web-based development tools.

$50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
