Job Description

Instructor of English, Humanities, and Languages SUMMARY The Department of English, Humanities, and Languages at Southeastern Oklahoma State University invites applications for the position of Full-time Instructor - English Composition. This is a non-tenure-track academic professional (Instructor-level) focused primarily on teaching (5 courses per semester). Key responsibilities include creating syllabi, delivering lectures, grading, mentoring students, holding office hours, and contributing to departmental service, without mandatory research requirements. Candidates must have the ability to teach in-person and online and a willingness to obtain Quality Matters certification and Canvas training.
Core Responsibilities Instruction:
Develop and teach multiple undergraduate courses in-person, online, or in hybrid formats, adhering to department standards. Instruction will be primarily in-person.
Student Assessment:
Design exams, assignments, and papers to evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback.
Student Support:
Hold regular office hours to mentor students, advise on academic progress, and provide academic support.
Curriculum Development:
Update course materials to reflect current knowledge and participate in modifying program curriculum.
Administrative Duties:
Participate in departmental meetings and assist with student retention efforts. Qualifications •
Education:
MA or MFA (required) or Ph.D. (preferred) in the subject area. •
Expertise:
Demonstrable mastery of the subject matter and a commitment to innovative, high-quality teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with credentials /experience related to developmental writing. Experience in teaching American Sign Language (ASL) a plus. •
Communication:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse student bodies. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The start date is August 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin June 1, 2026 and continue until filled. Position and responsibilities may require varied time and delivery methods.
