Job Description

Independence Charter School - Center City (ICS- CC) is a K-8 Philadelphia citywide admission charter focused on academic excellence, second language acquisition and developing global citizens. ICS is now recruiting culturally proficient educators to join the 2026-2027 staff. This is a full-time teaching position. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.
JOB SUMMARY
The teacher in this position plans, organizes and implements an appropriate English Language Arts program in two 2nd grade classes (class sizes range from 22-24 students) that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This position requires flexibility in that the teacher will also conduct small groups for students needing reading or writing intervention in grades K-8 (focus will be grades 3-5). GRADE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson and instructional materials that facilitate active learning in English Language Arts for two 2nd grade classes. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations. Participate in department, school and parent meetings. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs. Observe and evaluate students' performance and development.
K-8 INTERVENTION TEACHER
Use multi-sensory and diagnostic instructional techniques in individual and small group sessions. Provide pull-out or push-in literacy intervention instruction to individual or small groups of students as identified by school administrators and teachers (K-8 students, focus on grades 2-5). Teach students reading strategies that support success in the content area subjects. Use formative and summative assessments to determine and document student progress and achievement. Communicate effectively with school administrators, classroom teachers, families and students through progress monitoring, face to face dialogue, and written messages. Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. B.A/B.S degree from an accredited college or university. Pennsylvania State certification in teaching in elementary K-6, PreK-4 or 4-8 required Demonstrated cultural responsiveness and skill in encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to feel a sense of belonging and creating a safe space where they feel respected, heard, and challenged. Demonstrated understanding, appreciation and compassion for students who learn differently Commitment to ICS values of equity, courage, community, and growth Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must have the ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
