About the
Role:
The ELL Teacher plays a critical role in supporting English Language Learners to achieve language proficiency and academic success within an inclusive educational environment. This position involves designing and delivering tailored instructional programs that address the unique linguistic and cultural needs of students whose first language is not English. The teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to create a supportive learning atmosphere that fosters language development and confidence. They help students develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while supporting their academic integration and cultural adjustment to the United States.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized and group instructional plans that enhance English language skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Assess students' language proficiency levels regularly and use data to inform instruction and track progress. Engage with families and communities to build partnerships that support students' language development and cultural integration.
Collaboration & Co-Teaching:
Partner with mainstream core content teachers to modify assignments, translate materials, and provide classroom-based language support.
Assessment:
Administer language proficiency test (like ACCESS) and evaluate data to track student progress and determine when they are ready to exit the ESL program.
Advocacy & Culture:
Nurture an inclusive classroom environment that respects students' cultural background while helping them adjust to the high school environment.
Family Engagement:
Build strong relationships with multilingual families and ensure school communications are accessible. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ELL instruction and language acquisition research.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL or related field Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Language Learning (ELL), TESOL/TELL endorsement Demonstrated experience working with English Language Learners in an educational setting. Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and instructional methodologies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, and families.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices and multicultural education. Familiarity with technology tools and digital resources that support language learning.
Pay:
$50,000.00 - $86,653.00 per year
