Job Description

Serves as an Instructor for the College, including duties of teaching, developing materials, advising students, and providing assistance to administration through committees and other activities. Job Functions of the
English Instructor:
Teaching Performance
  • the ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process. Instructional Development
  • the development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate instructional methods. Instructional Management
  • the effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports. Student Advisement
  • the participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development. College/Community Service
  • the participation in college activities and the promotion of the college through service. Professional Development
  • the participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SBTCE Minimum Requirements:
Master's Degree with 18 credit hours in the subject area (English).
NETC Preferred Requirements:
Previous teaching experience at community/technical college, high schools, industries, and/or prisons. Experience using a variety of teaching modalities (face-to-face, broadcast, and online). Must have a valid driver's license. Teaching ability is a must, with concern for student success and willingness to advise students on a regular basis. Supervision of employees in the Instructional area is general, allowing a large degree of freedom and discretion (based on guideline of academic freedom). Employees have access to supervisor, with regular meetings for communication purposes. The teaching environment includes classroom and lab, requiring local travel to business/industry and community campuses and some short term travel may be required for professional meetings. Professional Development may require some overnight stays. Teaching locations include partner High Schools, State, Federal and Juvenile Correction facilities, community campuses, and industry partners. State Holidays Work/Life Balance Work Schedule:
The college operating hours (open to the public) are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. Employees are offered one flexible work schedule option. All schedules consist of three full days and one shorter day, which totals 37.5 hours per week. State Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Programs Professional Development opportunities NETC is a qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time at NETC. To qualify for PSLF, you must: be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization (federal service includes U.S. military service) work full-time for that agency or organization have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan) repay your loans under an income-driven repayment plan
