Job Title Instructor in English Department LDTC - English Employment Status FT Full-Time Full Time/Part Time Full Time Benefits Yes Months per Year 9 months - Fall and Spring Semesters Job Description SUMMARY Conducts college English courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Teaches English courses within prescribed curriculum, primarily freshman composition (Composition I and II) and integrated reading and writing courses. Constructs and posts course syllabi in Blackboard that conform to departmental standards, prescribed student learning outcomes, and SPC policies. Creates calendars that outline course material, assignments, papers, and readings. Prepares lessons, presents course material, and conducts class activities. Stimulates class discussions and facilitates class/group activities that support course learning outcomes. Tutors students who require special attention. Compiles, administers, and grades course assignments, including quizzes, examinations, essays, and research papers in a timely fashion. Ensures that accurate, up-to-date grades are continuously available to students in Blackboard Grade Center. Promptly submits reports that are requested by the departmental chairperson and the administrators of the college. Keeps accurate records of students' attendance and reports excessive absences to the appropriate office via the South Plains College website. Prepares and submits grade reports prior to the announced deadlines. Performs other duties as assigned, such advising students and serving on departmental and college committees. EXPERIENCE
Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English is required. Master's degree in English (36 graduate hours of ENGL-prefix coursework) is preferred. College teaching experience and experience with Blackboard or comparable learning management system are desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents. Ability to write professional correspondence. Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, administration, staff, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Consistent with instructional area.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
