Job Description

Applicants must hold a Master's or PhD degree in a related field, PhD preferred, and demonstrate proficiency in Latin. Applicants should have prior experience teaching at the college or university level. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Service Employees International Union. This position is contingent upon budgetary approval. The Department of Classics at the University of Chicago invites applications for a position as part-time Lecturer in Latin, with an expected start date of September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The selected candidate will teach courses across all levels of Latin; the teaching load will be four to five courses over the three quarters of the 2026-27 academic year. Please note that candidates should be available to teach in-person from the start of the autumn quarter through the end of the spring quarter. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for additional appointment contingent upon continued curricular need and following successful review.
Salary Range or Pay Grade:
Lecturer 2: The salary for this position is $40,357 for teaching four courses per year and $49,325 for teaching five courses per year during the 2026-2027 academic year. This base pay is for a nine-month academic appointment paid over twelve months. The position also includes a relocation allowance for qualifying expenses. This position is benefits-eligible.
