Scope of Job:

The Department of Literatures and Cultural Studies seeks applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Lecturer in Literature & Cultural Studies beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year. The search is open to all subfields and periods. We are especially interested in candidates with experience teaching introductory or core curriculum classes, and/or with secondary school instruction experience. This position may include Dual Enrollment instruction at area collegiate high schools in partnership with UTRGV dual enrollment initiatives. The successful applicant may be assigned core curriculum courses across the department's programs, including ENGL, MASC, GWSP, and FILM; courses may include

ENGL 2341

(Introduction to Literature), ENGL 2321 (Introduction to British Literature), ENGL 2326 (Introduction to American Literature), ENGL 1305 (Writing Cultural Studies), MASC 2301 (Introduction to Mexican American Studies), GWSP 1301 (Introduction to Gender Studies), GWSP 2301 (Concepts in Gender and Sexuality), and

FILM 2312

(History of Film). Teaching may be assigned in any modality, at any UTRGV campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold an M.A. in English, Cultural Studies, Ethnic Studies, Women's & Gender Studies, or Comparative Literature from an accredited institution of higher education (candidates with a terminal degree other than English must have at least 18 hours of graduate credit in English).

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:

A foundation in Literary Studies and Cultural Studies.

Preferred Qualification:

Ability and/or interest in Dual Enrollment Instruction. A Ph.D. in English, Cultural Studies, Ethnic Studies, Women's & Gender Studies, or Comparative Literature from an accredited institution of higher education (candidates with a terminal degree other than English must have at least 18 hours of graduate credit in English).

Additional Information:

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
