Job Description

Carnegie Mellon University:
School of Computer Science:
Language Technologies Institute Location:
Pittsburgh or remote
Description:
The adjunct is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and hiring teaching assistants, consistent with standard practices for LTI courses. The course meets once per week for a two-hour session, and the instructor is expected to be present for the full duration. During the second hour, a teaching assistant will lead a recitation section. In addition to the weekly class meeting, the instructor is expected to convene a weekly meeting with the teaching assistants to plan recitation activities and provide instructional guidance. Teaching assistants are responsible for grading course materials; however, they regularly consult with the instructor regarding grading questions and related academic issues. Both the instructor and teaching assistants are expected to actively monitor and respond on Piazza. The instructor is not required to hold regularly scheduled office hours, but must remain accessible to students who request meetings. Certificate students may seek academic or career guidance or wish to raise concerns about the course, and the instructor is expected to address such matters and follow up as appropriate. The instructor is also responsible for reviewing all homework assignments, experiential ("learn-by-doing") activities, and examinations to ensure alignment with in-class instruction. In addition, revisions and enhancements to the learn-by-doing activities are required, informed by feedback received from students in the previous offering of the course.
Qualifications:
Experience in teaching Large Language Models Methods and Application or similar courses is required. Experience in teaching advanced math (Linear Algebra, Multivariate Calculus, Probability) and Algorithms & Data Structures or similar courses is required. Master's degree in computer science or related field is required.
