Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Substitute Assistant Early Childhood Teacher / Education Support Assistant (T0041, T0044, T0037) at the Andy Taylor Center for Early Childhood Development. The Andy Taylor Center is part of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) in the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Longwood University. The Substitute Assistant Early Childhood Teacher will provide support to the Lead Teacher in the classroom. The Substitute Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting with planning, guiding, and assessing instruction. The selected candidate will also be responsible for collaborating with Lead Teachers to ensure smooth transitions, similar expectations throughout the day, and efficient planning. Additionally, the Substitute Assistant Teacher will facilitate open communication with families. This position will report to the Site Director. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Job Requirements:
The ECDI seeks candidates with experience working in project-based early childhood programming, preferably Reggio-inspired teaching. Candidates should have experience working in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related fields. Early childhood credentials or associate's degree preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the development of young children and knowledge of and/or training in emergent curriculum and documentation. It is also preferred that candidates have experience collaboratively teaching in a school or childcare center with children birth to age five.Additional Information:
This is a part-time, temporary wage, non-exempt position in a pay band 1. Hours worked will vary based on need, but will be limited to 1,500 hours maximum per work year. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
