Description Join Mohave College's Adjunct Faculty Pool for the Medical Billing & Coding Program and become part of a collaborative instructional team dedicated to empowering students and supporting Mohave College Students First mission. Adjunct faculty in Billing & Coding contribute significantly to student learning by delivering accurate, compliant instruction in coding, healthcare reimbursement, medical documentation, insurance processes, and regulatory requirements. Adjunct instructors in this program do more than facilitate pre-developed content-it requires active teaching, mentorship, meaningful student engagement, participation in program activities, and consistent communication with faculty and staff. This position supports program integrity, student success, and institutional quality standards. Mohave College offers on-ground, online, hybrid, and evening courses. Adjunct faculty are expected to participate in innovative instructional practices and flexible scheduling that foster success across a diverse student population. Typical Duties Prepare and deliver course lessons, demonstrations, and student learning activities in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, insurance billing, medical documentation, healthcare compliance, and revenue cycle management. Develop and distribute course syllabi outlining course requirements, attendance expectations, grading criteria, and office hours. Maintain accurate and complete grade and attendance records and submit all required reports by institutional deadlines. Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver instruction, record grades, provide feedback, and communicate with students. Canvas experience preferred. Respond to emails and messages from Mohave College personnel and students in a professional and timely manner (generally within 48 hours). Attend required adjunct faculty meetings, program meetings, division meetings, and CTL (Center for Teaching & Learning) training sessions. Complete mandatory annual training modules (FERPA, Title IX, cybersecurity, compliance, and other Mohave College-required trainings). Participate in program assessment, course evaluations, curriculum conversations, and updates related to billing, coding, compliance, and healthcare regulations. Stay current with changes toICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, HIPAA, OIG
guidelines, CMS policies, and industry billing standards. Provide timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback to help students understand coding rationale and documentation accuracy. Maintain student confidentiality in compliance withFERPA, HIPAA
principles, and institutional policies. Meet attendance standards, follow class schedules, and maintain reliability in instructional commitments. Engage constructively with full-time faculty and actively contribute to the collaborative instructional team. Recognize that this is not simply teaching a canned class-this role requires active teaching, professional communication, consistent updates, and student-centered instruction. Be available and accessible for student support, questions, and communication through posted office hours or virtual options. Demonstrate professional ethics, accuracy, attention to detail, and compliance with healthcare regulations in all aspects of instruction. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following minimum education and experience requirements in addition to Mohave College Faculty Qualification standards. It is the applicant's responsibility to submit all required documentation. Minimum Associate Degree in Medical Billing & Coding, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum two (2) years of recent professional experience in medical coding, insurance billing, health information management, or healthcare revenue cycle. Current certification in the field is required (e.g., CPC, CPB, CCA, CBCS, or equivalent). Teaching experience preferred but not required. Canvas (LMS) experience preferred. Professional Expectations To support Mohave College's mission and maintain program quality, Billing & Coding adjunct faculty are required to: Respond promptly to student and institutional communications. Attend all required faculty meetings and regular CTL trainings. Complete all annual mandatory training modules. Participate in CTL professional development related to Canvas and instructional quality. Support curriculum consistency and compliance with accreditation standards. Maintain ethical, accurate, and compliant coding practices in all instructional activities. Contribute positively to a professional, collaborative teaching team. Engage in continuous professional growth and industry updates.Core Competencies Teamwork:
