DEFINITION
To coordinate, plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate the clinical education component of the Medical Sonography Program; to provide didactic instruction necessary for students entering and progressing through clinical education; to coordinate assigned activities with other college programs, divisions, departments, campuses, and outside clinical affiliates; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative and academic support. The Clinical Coordinator is a full-time, 09-month faculty member who works in close collaboration with the Medical Sonography Program Director and is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of clinical education. This position ensures effective integration of clinical and didactic education while maintaining compliance with institutional policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards established by CAAHEP and JRC-DMS. The Clinical Coordinator recruits new clinical affiliates and fosters existing partnerships to ensure a sufficient number of quality clinical sites to support enrollment and student learning outcomes. This position also provides didactic instruction, customer service, data support, and documentation services in alignment with college policies and accreditation requirements. Receives general supervision from the Medical Sonography Program Director and Department Chair, Nursing. Exercises functional supervision over clinical preceptors, and assigned instructional personnel related to clinical education. ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions:
Develop, coordinate, and manage student clinical rotations across all affiliated clinical sites, ensuring final approval from the Program Director. Maintain ongoing communication with clinical affiliates to ensure adequate supervision, case variety, and learning resources. Conduct regular clinical site visits to monitor student progress and ensure compliance with program and accreditation standards. Serve as the primary contact for clinical instructors and site supervisors. Schedule and conduct clinical instructor orientations and training sessions. Monitor student performance and progression throughout clinical education. Evaluate clinical competency, professionalism, attendance, and adherence to program policies. Provide timely feedback, counseling, and remediation plans as needed. Ensure students meet required clinical competency and clock-hour requirements prior to graduation. Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential records of student evaluations, competency documentation, and attendance. Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty to align didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction. Participate in curriculum review and revision to ensure compliance with current professional and accreditation standards. Integrate CAAHEP and JRC-DMS required competencies into clinical objectives and evaluation tools. Teach assigned didactic and laboratory courses as part of the college-assigned faculty load. Maintain and update clinical education documentation required for accreditation self-studies and annual reports. Participate in program assessment, data collection, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations including CAAHEP, JRC-DMS, FERPA, and HIPAA. Assist in preparation for and participation in accreditation site visits and program reviews. Attend and contribute to program, division, and advisory committee meetings. Maintain professional relationships with clinical partners and professional organizations. Participate in faculty development and continuing education activities. Assist in student recruitment, advising, orientation, and graduate follow-up. Contribute to program reports, accreditation documentation, and institutional planning as assigned. Serve on institutional committees and study groups as assigned. Assist in recruitment and retention efforts for the Medical Sonography Program. Support coordination, use, and maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment. Represent the college within the community and professional organizations. Provide guidance and advice to students. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Educational program planning, organization, and evaluation practices. Clinical education coordination and supervision principles. Accreditation standards and requirements (CAAHEP/JRC-DMS). Applicable federal and state regulations including FERPA and HIPAA. Curriculum development, assessment strategies, and instructional methodology. Current trends and best practices in diagnostic medical sonography. Ability To:
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, clinical affiliates, and administrators. Communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively both verbally and in writing. Organize, coordinate, and manage multiple clinical placements and responsibilities simultaneously. Analyze problems, identify solutions, and implement recommendations. Supervise, evaluate, and support students and clinical instructors. Maintain accurate documentation and data reporting. Interpret and apply institutional policies, accreditation standards, and program requirements. Maintain professional competency in clinical practice and educational methodology through ongoing development. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Minimum Education/Training:
A two-year Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited institution. Possess appropriate credential(s) specific to the concentration(s) in which the program is accredited. ARDMS (or Equivalent) credentials required in Abdomen and Obstetrical/Gynecological. Vascular registry is a plus. Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer. Documented experience with students as a clinical preceptor/instructor, or documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, or educational theories and techniques. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Documentation of educational experience may include clinical preceptor/instructor experience, completed college coursework, seminars, or in-service training in learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques. Preferred Training, Experience, Skills:
Experience with accreditation processes and clinical site development. Prior teaching experience in a college or clinical education setting. Special Instructions to Applicants :
