Position Summary The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SPHR) at Portland State University is seeking well-qualified applicants for a non-tenure track position at the Associate Clinical Professor level, beginning September 16, 2026. This core SPHR faculty member will provide academic and clinical instruction in the field of speech-language pathology. This is a 1.0 FTE 9-month position with full benefits. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech
  • Language Pathology (CAA).
SPHR graduate and undergraduate students meet pre-professional and professional requirements as required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This is an appointment for individuals who are licensed and certified professionals recognized within the field of speech-language pathology. Applicants must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and either hold or be eligible for Oregon state licensure. The SPHR Department is committed to building a diverse faculty. Responsibilities include academic and clinical instruction in the following areas: Clinic coordination and supervision, including related seminars for speech-language pathology graduate students related to adult and/or pediatric clinical populations. Undergraduate and/or graduate academic teaching. Instruction includes up to five courses per year related to adult and/or pediatric speech and language pathology topics. Perform regular university and departmental administrative and service duties, including committee work, graduate selection, comprehensive exam review, advising, curriculum/program development, graduation and orientation events, and professionally related community engagement. Primary Activity I
  • Instructional Minimum Qualifications Earned master's degree in speech-language pathology Minimum of six years post-certification professional practice broad-scope clinical speech-language pathology experience Minimum of three years of professional practice teaching in an academic setting to include direct clinical instruction/supervision experience with student clinicians, including evaluation/feedback and clinical competency development.
Evidence of effectiveness in professional instruction, including materials indicating command of the academic and/or clinical subject matter Experience in clinical instruction, mentoring, or supervision in a healthcare/educational setting. Ability to motivate, mentor/advise, and assess students Creative and effective use of teaching methods, and evidence of effective engagement of a professional nature ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology license (or eligible for licensure upon hire) Eligibility to provide supervision under ASHA and Oregon rules Demonstrated competence providing diagnosis and treatment across at least one major practice area of speech language pathology Preferred Qualifications Terminal degree in Speech Language Pathology or related field (e.g., Ph.D, Ed.

D, clinical doctorate) Knowledge of and ability to comply with HIPAA/FERPA, mandated reporting, and professional ethics (ASHA Code of Ethics) Clinical instruction/supervision of graduate-level speech-language pathology students from an accredited institution Nine or more years post-certification professional experience Key Cultural Competencies Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.
