The Department of Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine invites applications for a part-time academic adjunct faculty position focused on clinical research leadership in cardiovascular inflammation and anti-inflammatory therapies. The successful candidate will serve as Principal Investigator and clinical trial team leader for a portfolio of NIH-funded clinical studies evaluating anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular disease. This position is intended for a physician-investigator with formal clinical training in medicine and cardiology, a strong record of NIH-funded clinical research, and demonstrated experience leading clinical trials. The adjunct faculty member will provide scientific, regulatory, clinical, and operational leadership for NIH-funded studies related to anti-inflammatory therapies in cardiovascular disease. The individual will be responsible for overseeing IRB-approved clinical trial protocols, coordinating interactions with NIH program staff and regulatory agencies, supervising trial conduct, and leading a multidisciplinary team of investigators, coordinators, and research staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. MD or DO degree, or equivalent medical degree Formal clinical training in Internal Medicine Clinical training in Cardiology Board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiology Demonstrated track record of NIH-funded clinical research Experience serving in clinical trial leadership roles Experience with human subjects research, IRB oversight, clinical trial operations, regulatory submissions, and safety monitoring Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and team-management skills Preferred Qualifications Experience serving as Principal Investigator or site Principal Investigator for NIH-funded clinical trials Experience with investigational drug studies, including IND submissions or FDA-regulated protocols Expertise in cardiovascular inflammation, heart failure, ischemic heart disease, myocarditis, pericardial disease, or related areas Record of peer-reviewed publications in cardiovascular clinical research Experience leading multidisciplinary research teams and mentoring junior investigators or clinical research staff
