It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College ( TCC ) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC . TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This position requires the ability to teach, counsel, supervise, evaluate, and maintain records of students in the clinical portion of the Respiratory Therapy Program. Must have an excellent understanding of respiratory anatomy and physiology, pathology, and clinical procedures. Must function as a role model in the clinical setting demonstrating a high degree of professionalism.
MASTERY OF SUBJECT MATTER
Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of respiratory therapy. Connect the subject matter with related fields. Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, involvementin professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences,and workshops. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
TEACHING PERFORMACE
Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subjectmatter to students. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diversestudent needs. Employ available instructional technology, i.e., the internet, telecourses, andinteractive technology when appropriate. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinkingskills through appropriate assignments. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials inaccordance with course objectives. Incorporate core competencies into curriculum.
EVALUATION OF STUDENT LEARNING
Establish meaningful student learning outcomes for courses and programs. Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances. Participate in inter-rater reliability training. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Substitute for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence. Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials. Record and provide attendance data in accordance with the College Policies and Procedures. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Experience in clinical practice. National Board of Respiratory Care ( NBRC ) certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current unencumbered license from the Virginia State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Therapist Additional Considerations Membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care ( AARC ). Current American Heart Association ( AHA ) certification for Basic Life support ( BLS ). Associate Degree (or higher) in Respiratory Therapy from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CO"ARC) accredited program.
