ACCOUNTABILITYOBJECTIVES
To assist the Chief Academic and Accountability Officer in creating, implementing, coordinating, and communicating strategic and academic initiatives (including but not limited to: Dual Language Immersion, Intersession, High Dosage Tutoring, Summer Programs, Afterschool Enrichment, and Intervention) that support the mission and vision of the school district. To direct the development of innovative programs, district equity initiatives, & practices and to oversee the implementation of these programs/initiatives throughout the district.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the planning, implementation and oversight of the Alabama School Choice and Student Opportunity Act.
- Manages ongoing review and updates related to the charter school process, magnet schools and other strategy and innovation efforts.
- Collaborates with all departments to ensure development and implementation of proposed and existing policies as approved by the BCS Board of Education to support the mission and vision of the district.
- Works collaboratively with academic district leadership and department heads to establish alignment among departments for the purpose of clarifying responsibilities, promoting flexibility and adaptability, reducing redundancy, and focusing district-wide efforts on the overall strategic plan.
- Demonstrates thought leadership and promotes a culture of innovation throughout the district for future-based results that encourages collaboration and the creation and testing of new ideas that will produce long-term impact on student achievement.
- Leads the change management process within the school district by promoting change awareness and readiness and driving adoption at all levels within the organization, identifying risks and potential points of resistance to be addressed, and ensuring personnel engagement and leadership alignment.
- Develops partnerships with other school systems to promote collaboration in envisioning and achieving next steps in the evolution of personalized learning that will provide the best possible opportunities for BCS students.
- Develop, organize and implement professional development opportunities for district, building, and program staff with an emphasis on racial and equity awareness.
- Establishes positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with outside vendors, service providers, and professional organizations to maintain up-to-date communication and Information on current and conceptual networked learning resources and technologies that will contribute to educational and professional development within the district.
- Maintains positive public relations with BCS staff and the community to seek support and input, respond to inquiries, and provide information in order to create a cooperative educational environment that supports the mission and vision of the school district.
- Plans and administers the Innovation departmental budget that adequately sustains the district's strategic Initiatives and monitors and controls expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility to the district's strategic goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities.
- Provides and ensures assigned employees' participation in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.
- Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving departmental operating procedures to improve department efficiency and effective use of school resources.
- Knowledge of school and school district operations and procedures
- Knowledge of current trends and related laws and regulations in educational reform, management, and information technologies.
- Knowledge of current and evolving federal, state and district requirements related to equity issues.
- Knowledge of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion and multiculturalism concepts and issues, especially in public education.
- Ability to serves as an internal resource and consultant, working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a politically sensitive context and complicated by competing perspectives or interests.
- Knowledge of and ability to lead people through a change process.
- Ability to collect, analyze and use assessment and other school data.
- Working knowledge of good management practices including financial accounting and reporting human resources, planning and implementation, and information technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, Education, Business or Public Administration, Educational Administration, or closely related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in a related field-Required. Experience in Public School System-Preferred. Successful school or district turnaround preferred.
- Must participate in background check and subsequently meet the "suitability for employment" requirement
- The Superintendent may deem such alternative and additions to the above qualifications as appropriate .
