Job Title Student Affairs Specialist - Title I School Improvement Funded (Temporary) Job Code FP-116 Job Grade AB/03 Job Goal To assist in promoting best practices, and supporting the overall operations of the assigned Title I school to further the educational development of students within the Huntsville City School System. Reports To Title I School Principal as assigned Supervises None Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotes high standards and expectations for all students regarding academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Collaborates with school teams and assist with strategic planning to ensure better student outcomes.
  • Participate in family meetings in response to discipline issues to determine the best next steps for student (intervention, placement, etc.)
  • Supports a safe and orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning with a climate of high expectations for students.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students' families to seek support and input in order to create and promote a cooperative relationship to support students and responds to parents' questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Supports students by providing additional supervision for school-sponsored events and attends school functions regularly to demonstrate genuine interest in student activities and maintain visibility with students, staff, students' families, and the community.
  • Consult with administration on matters related to attendance, misconduct and incidents and look for trends in order to assist schools in managing these issues in a proactive manner.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with central administration, students' families, and representatives of resource agencies and service providers to ultimately ensure the needs of students and their families are being met.
  • Responsible for maintaining operating procedures to improve efficiency and effective use of school resources to support student learning.
  • Monitors chronic absences and supports social emotional learning for all students.
  • Supports academic advising that directs students when developing academic plans for educational and career goals. Collaborates with faculty and staff to obtain information to assist with students' individual learning plans.
  • Provides academic support services to ensure students' academic growth and achievement in their various content areas. Arranges tutoring assistance for students with faculty who demonstrate subject mastery.
  • Coordinates orientation for newly enrolled students that supports the bridging of new students to the school environment. Ensures students understand the expectations of reaching their full potential through a rigorous and relevant educational environment. Acclimates students to the policies and procedures specific to the school.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications A Master's Degree with a major in Educational Administration or related area and a minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience or other related experience in a school environment are required. A valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in the field of school administration is preferred. Physical Requirements Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Terms of Employment Ten-month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board. This specification has been designed to represent the general nature and level of work found in this position.
