Job Summary:
The Student Assistant represents the Dean of Students Office during Bama Bound orientation by staffing information tables and providing accurate resources to incoming students and their families. Engages with students and parents by answering general inquiries and directing them to appropriate campus services. Supports the planning and execution of events, programs, and outreach initiatives hosted or supported by the Dean of Students Office, as well as assist with daily office operations such as greeting visitors, answering phones, responding to emails, filing, data entry, and scheduling. Responsibilities also include assisting with the operation of the student food pantry, including stocking, inventory management, setup, and supporting students accessing services. Additionally, the student assistant will provide general administrative and programmatic support to professional staff and perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and daily functions of the office.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current University of Alabama undergraduate student.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work up to 20 hours per week during normal business hours, with some flexibility as needed. Must be able to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion, maintain strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and effectively balance independent work with collaboration as part of a team.
Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. Embodies a professional demeanor and a customer-service-oriented approach when interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in front desk, administrative, or customer service roles preferred, along with familiarity with The University of Alabama resources and referral processes. Involvement in campus organizations or leadership roles is a plus, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment.
