Job Description

Job Summary:
The Residence Director is a full-time, live-in professional responsible for the comprehensive, year-round management of on-campus residential communities. This position provides leadership in cultivating a safe, inclusive, and academically supportive living environment while overseeing daily operations, facilities coordination, student development initiatives, and staff supervision. The Residence Director plays a critical role in student engagement, retention, and risk management by maintaining continuous operational oversight of housing facilities, supervising and mentoring Resident Assistants (RAs), and implementing programs that foster community, leadership, and personal growth. Responsibilities extend throughout the calendar year and include summer facility preparation, strategic planning, staff training, and assessment of residential services. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy. This position requires evening and weekend availability. The schedule will be discussed prior to official offer.
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$30,000-$32,000 to commensurate with education and experience
Housing Allowance:
$10,000 annually

Exempt Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants and other student housing staff.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities for student staff.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings, training sessions, and evaluation processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Development and Community Engagement
  • Develop, implement, and assess residential life programming that promotes student engagement, leadership development, personal responsibility, and academic success.
  • Conduct regular floor meetings, community check-ins, and intentional student outreach.
  • Support conflict mediation, roommate agreements, and community standards of education.
  • Identify students of concern and coordinate referrals to appropriate campus resources including tutoring, academic advising, and student support services.
  • Address behavioral concerns and participate in the student conduct process, including documentation and hearing responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain a visible and approachable presence within residential facilities through routine walk-throughs and relationship building.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to enhance student well-being, belonging, and retention initiatives. Operations and Facilities Management
  • Manage daily residence hall operations including room assignments, occupancy management, and waitlists.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, safety audits, and room condition reports.
  • Coordinate maintenance requests and collaborate with Facilities staff for repairs, preventative maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Oversee key inventory, access control systems, and lock changes.
  • Coordinate move-in and move-out logistics including damage billing, inventory tracking, and traffic flow management.
  • Monitor cleanliness and shared space standards in partnership with custodial services.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, evacuation procedures, and safety equipment inspections.
  • Coordinate vendor access and scheduling related to housing improvements and repairs. Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director of Student Life and Housing to ensure housing database and records are accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal and state regulations including Title IX, FERPA, Clery Act reporting, ADA accommodations, and risk management standards.
  • Participate in campus committees and initiatives related to student success, safety, and engagement. Summer and Inter-Session Responsibilities
  • Coordinate deep cleaning schedules and room resets in preparation for upcoming academic terms.
  • Conduct comprehensive room inspections, damage assessments, and inventory updates.
  • Coordinate and manage repainting, furniture replacement, and facility refresh projects in partnership with Facilities.
  • Manage summer housing occupancy, conferences, camps, or special programs as applicable.
  • Plan and execute RA recruitment, selection processes, and onboarding timelines.
  • Develop annual programming calendars and residential curriculum plans.
  • Provide recommendations regarding capacity and operational improvements.
  • Audit safety equipment, signage, access control systems, and compliance postings.
  • Prepare training modules and materials for student staff.
  • Participate in institutional planning, retention strategy meetings, and accreditation-related documentation.

Required Education and Experience:
Associate's degree Experience in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, residential life, or a related field Relevant experience may include campus housing involvement, student leadership roles, community living environments, or positions involving supervision and conflict resolution
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a related field Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residence life, student housing operations, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to reside in on-campus housing; work evenings and weekends as required; respond promptly to emergencies; lift up to 25 pounds; ability to do physical tasks such as moving furniture and various campus facilities maintenance.
