Adjunct assignments are filled on an as needed basis. As a position becomes available, you may be contacted by the hiring manager should the school/college be interested in scheduling an interview. The Department of Writing Program invites applications for adjunct faculty to serve as Lab Instructors for
WRIT 120.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to deliver instruction in the manner determined by the department. In addition, faculty responsibilities may include:
Facilitate Weekly Labs:
Lead 50-to-75-minute lab sessions focused on drafting, peer review, and rhetorical exercises.
One-on-One Coaching:
Provide individualized feedback on student papers, focusing on thesis development, organization, and mechanics.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Lead Course Instructor to ensure lab activities align with the main lecture curriculum.
Student Support:
Help students overcome "writing anxiety" and develop sustainable research habits.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Current enrollment in a Master's or Doctoral program (English, Composition, Education, or related field) is highly preferred. Previous experience in a Writing Center, as a Teaching Assistant, etc. is a plus. Strong mastery of MLA/APA formatting and a deep understanding of the writing process. A commitment to the heritage and ethos of Azusa Pacific University, including a desire to integrate Christian faith with academic excellence.
Workload:
Assigned teaching duties will not exceed 9 units per semester; office hours and additional duties may be assigned. Total workload will not exceed 29 hours per week, nor 24 units per 12-month period.
Mental Demands:
Ability to integrate Christian values in all aspects. Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information. Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
Compensation:
$25.32 - $27.32/hour (Using a 3 unit full semester appointment as a pay guide). The actual hourly rate will be determined by the units, course length, experience, and rank of the candidate. Adjuncts are paid on an hourly basis which includes preparation and teaching time.
