Job Description:
JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC's holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs. The duties and responsibilities commensurate with the role of the STC Coordinator include but are not limited to any combination of the following tasks: Overall program supervision including Regular communication and meetings with Diversity Pipeline Programs Director regarding operations, development, fundraising, plans for future, problem solving and all other needs Regular communication and check-ins with Thurgood Marshall Academic High School staff and students Program budget preparation and management Providing relevant information for grant opportunities Plan, organize and implement all aspects of college tours Writing and keeping current program descriptions, statistics and related supporting materials College and Career Programming Plan, organize, and coordinate college field trips, campus visits, and career exploration opportunities Coordinate college and career events, assist school staff with workshops, presentations, and informational sessions for students and families Research and disseminate information regarding colleges, universities, vocational programs, apprenticeships, scholarships, and career pathways Recruit and coordinate guest speakers, college representatives, industry professionals, and alumni to support student engagement and career exploration Collaborate with school staff and community partners to expand access to postsecondary opportunities and resources General Administration Maintain confidential database of email addresses, parents/guardians, mentors and alumni contact information and other relevant information, including admissions information, progress, successes and other alumni information Prepare an annual calendar of STC school-based events Prepare mentor training materials, arrange mentor training session and coordinate mentors Recruit and organize speakers, including STC alumni, other college students, college counselors, admission officers and others Recruit and vet mentors Conduct outreach establishing relationships with colleges and high school community partners Special Events Coordinate fall and spring college field trips and career fair with college counselors, Thurgood Marshall principal, assistant principal and college representatives Development of programs to increase parent involvement in STC Plan, organize and publicize year-end celebration for graduating STC senior and their parents/guardians
Education:
B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent 2 years administrative experience in educational or teenage youth environment Ability to build relationships with youth that result in positive development Demonstrated ability in working with young people's parents Strong oral and written communication skills
Skills & Requirements:
Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to communicate with, respond to, motivate and coach teenagers; ability to communicate with, assist and give direction to a wide range of volunteers, staff and others, including mentors, parents, community partners and others.
