High School Dean of Students Job Summary:
Operating under the direction of the Building Leader, this position supports student success by leading efforts related to behavior, discipline, student engagement, and school safety. This position serves as the primary point of contact for student attendance and behavior issues, working collaboratively with staff, students, families, and community partners. This position plays a critical role in coordinating behavior supports and engaging in proactive interventions to foster a safe and supporting learning environment. Job Responsibility Description Leadership and Administrative Support Serves as the primary contact for student attendance, behavior and discipline, supporting the implementation of district policies, social-emotional learning (SEL), and student engagement initiatives. Collaborates with students, families, staff, law enforcement, and community agencies to resolve discipline and attendance issues. Receives and manages behavioral referrals, using the Response to Intervention (RTI)/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process to support students in alignment with school and district expectations. Ensures student behavior expectations and discipline practices are inclusive, culturally responsive, and supportive of all students. Maintains behavioral and attendance data to monitor trends, track interventions, and support continuous improvement efforts. Supports the school's crisis management and safety plans; participates in incident response and school safety protocols. Represents the school in student investigations, ensuring confidentiality, compliance with law and policy, and sensitivity to potential public impact. Engages in community outreach related to student welfare and school safety. Educational Support and Intervention Partners with school counselors and staff to implement evidence-based behavioral interventions. Assists in aligning classroom behavior strategies with individual student behavior plans and schoolwide practices. Participates in student support meetings, including IEPs, 504s, MTSS, parent conferences, and disciplinary hearings. Responds to parent, student, and staff concerns related to behavior, discipline, and policy interpretation. Serves on expulsion and discipline panels and helps design alternative educational options for students in need. Collects and analyzes student data to inform behavior plans, compliance reporting, and professional learning needs. Facilitates staff training related to district-behavior management strategies. School Activities and Campus Support Participates in and supervises extracurricular, athletic, and student-based activities, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Acts as a liaison to afterschool programs and works with school personnel and community partners to support student development. Coordinates with facilities staff to ensure safe and effective implementation of school safety protocols. Supports collaboration with the Athletic Department, Band Boosters, and other groups on school events and projects. Staff Collaboration and Development Promotes a culture of student-centered decision-making and collaborative adult learning. May be assigned direct supervision responsibilities in accordance with district policy, licensure, and staffing needs. Participates in staff support functions which may include hiring, training, planning, assigning work, and assisting with evaluations or disciplinary processes in alignment with school and district goals. Assists with resolving staff concerns and supports a positive school climate. Other Duties Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed/requested.
Qualifications:
Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and/or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District. Bachelor's degree in education or related field required Master's degree preferred Five years of experience in teaching position with demonstrated increasing instructional leadership roles required Demonstrated experience in the use and implementation of successful student intervention and support strategies required
