Job Description

The Mitchell College Fellowship Program is a developmental experience designed for emerging professionals interested in student affairs, higher education, and related fields. This program provides immersive, hands-on learning combined with mentorship, professional development, and intentional engagement across multiple functional areas of the college. Fellows gain broad exposure to campus operations and student success initiatives while developing skills in leadership, communication, student support, and program management. Rooted in Mitchell College's commitment to building a Beloved Community, the Fellowship Program is designed to foster belonging, collaboration, and inclusive excellence while preparing Fellows for future careers in higher education. The experience also supports the Mitchell College Abilities framework by providing structured opportunities to develop professional competencies through applied practice, reflection, and assessment. This experience is intentionally designed to support professional exploration and career readiness in Student Affairs and related fields. Fellows are appointed for one-year terms, with the opportunity for re-appointment based on performance and organizational needs. Program Experience & Structure Fellows are placed within a primary department, which serves as their administrative base and supervision structure.

Residence Life Student Engagement Integrative Career Development Advancement and Alumni Affairs The Thames at Mitchell Program Enrollment Management Student Affairs In addition to their primary department, Fellows engage in cross-functional experiences across campus, providing meaningful exposure to multiple areas of higher education practice (secondary concentration/work groups). Assignments are designed to support professional growth, broaden institutional understanding, and strengthen transferable skills in student engagement, operations, and student success. Key Components of the Fellowship Experience Professional Development & Mentorship Participate in a structured professional development curriculum designed to prepare emerging professionals for careers in higher education. Engage in regular one-on-one mentorship with professional staff and supervisor. Student Engagement & Community Development Support programs and initiatives that foster student engagement, belonging, and connection within Mitchell's Beloved Community. Participate in campus-wide signature events, traditions, and student success initiatives. Contribute to efforts that enhance student retention, persistence, and overall student experience. Cross-Departmental Exposure Gain experience across multiple functional areas within Student Affairs and institutional operations. Collaborate with staff in various departments to support programming, services, and student support initiatives. Develop a broad understanding of higher education operations and student success systems. Student Support & Responsibility Provide support to students through engagement, outreach, and referral to appropriate resources. Respond to student needs and assist in maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive campus environment. Work with and support neurodivergent students, ensuring inclusive, accessible, and affirming engagement practices. Operations & Administrative Experience Assist with program coordination, event logistics, documentation, and administrative support. Contribute to assessment, reporting, and data-informed decision-making processes. Support institutional initiatives that advance student success and engagement. Compensation & Benefits Annual stipend: $20,000 On-campus housing available (required for student life positions). All live-on positions within student success participate in the on-call duty rotation to support campus safety and student well-being. Meal plan provided during academic terms for student success live-on positions. Eligibility for institutional tuition exchange programs Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent academic credit required 1-2 years of experience preferred, or demonstrated commitment to and engagement with work related to the primary department's areas of responsibility. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Commitment to inclusive excellence and contributing to Mitchell's Beloved Community Ability to work a flexible job schedule including evenings, weekends to meet the needs of students. Willingness to learn new systems and engage in professional development Valid driver's license required for roles involving driving campus vehicles. Physical Requirements This role may require sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands for computer-based tasks. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
