Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
: Edward Waters University invites applications for the position of Director of Student Activities and Leadership. Reporting within the Division of Student Success and Engagement, the Director provides strategic leadership for student engagement, leadership development, and co-curricular programming that supports student success, retention, and institutional mission alignment. The Director oversees leadership councils, registered student organizations, major campus traditions, and the Student Union Building as a central hub for engagement. The position collaborates closely with University College, Enrollment Management, and campus partners to ensure student leaders maintain academic success, register appropriately for leadership courses, and adhere to university policies and protocols.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Leadership Development and Student Governance Provide leadership, advisement, and oversight for student leadership councils and governance bodies, including: National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Student Government Association (SGA) Tiger Nation Royal Court Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) Develop and implement a comprehensive leadership development model aligned with institutional learning outcomes and student success goals. Oversee student leadership eligibility, academic monitoring, and leadership-related course registration in collaboration with University College and Enrollment Management. Train and certify faculty and staff advisors; develop and enforce advisor eligibility requirements and expectations. Programming and Signature Events Serve as institutional lead for major campus traditions and signature student programs, including: Homecoming (Program Lead) Tiger Fest New Student Orientation Student Elections Week Mr. and Miss EWU Pageant, Coronation, and Royal Court programming Provide leadership for educational and culturally affirming initiatives, including: Anti-Hazing Awareness and Membership Intake Education Women's Herstory Month Male Empowerment Week Denim Day Brown Sugar Brunch IST Day Out Ensure programs are inclusive, educationally purposeful, and aligned with university mission and values. Student Union Building and Engagement Spaces Oversee the Student Union Building and Student Activities Center as strategic programming and engagement resource spaces. Ensure appropriate, equitable, and intentional use of student spaces to support leadership development and campus involvement. Collaborate with campus partners to maximize student engagement through facility utilization. Assessment, Data, and Student Success Collect, analyze, and report data related to student engagement, leadership participation, organizational involvement, and academic outcomes. Use assessment results to inform program improvement and contribute to institutional retention and persistence efforts. Prepare reports and documentation demonstrating program effectiveness and impact. Leadership and Collaboration Serve on university-wide committees related to student leadership, engagement, and retention. all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
: Required Qualifications Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Leadership, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in student activities, leadership development, or student engagement. Demonstrated knowledge of student governance, fraternity and sorority life (with emphasis on NPHC), and registered student organizations. Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. Experience using assessment and data to inform decision-making and student success initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Experience working at an HBCU or mission-driven institution. Experience leading large-scale campus traditions and signature programs. Familiarity with student success, retention, and leadership curriculum alignment.

(KSAs) : Strong communicator, excellent written and communication skills Ability to present and engage large groups; professional discernment Must possess strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate, influence and model the way Ability to think critically and strategically, and have excellent sound judgment in navigating a fast paced environment Knowledge of Student Development Theory
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
: Work Environment & Expectations Evening and weekend work required, particularly during major events and programming cycles. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
